Our approach

Why do ordinary when you could be extraordinary?

We do the exact opposite of ordinary. We make a conscious effort to only take on projects where we believe we can make a positive difference and take pride in every project we undertake, giving it our undivided attention. We focus entirely on brand styling and marketing so you can focus on more important things like making that cup of tea you promised yourself an hour ago and unchaining yourself from your desk.

Every client matters to us and we give every project our same level of innovative thinking and enthusiasm. Nothing matters more to us than knowing you have clean underpants* and marketing materials you are truly proud of. *Very important

Our core team

It takes an extraordinary team to make extraordinary things happen. Are you ready to meet the MAD Ideas family?

Sister combo Carmen and Carol and co break our clients out of the mould so they can do their thing!

MAD Ideas pug

Bingo, Top Dog
C.E.O.

With his kind face and curves in all the right places, Bingo knows a thing or two about living life to the max. He loves looking after his clients and *thinks* he’s in charge. As C.E.O (Chief Eating Officer), we think he probably is.

Carmen

Creative Director
MA, BA (Hons)

Carmen has loved design since a young age and has been fortunate enough to carve a successful career in marketing communications. She co-founded MAD Ideas agency and has energised new and existing brands, delivering high-profile campaigns which make a positive difference to local communities. She has a strong interest in animal advocacy, believing we should respect all living beings.

She says: “I love life and all things beautiful and like to think everything we touch should be beautiful.”

Carol

Client Director
BA (Hons)

She’s your ‘go to girl’ for all things fresh, on trend and on the up. As well as looking after Bingo, she loves helping our clients think outside the box, looking after their individual marketing and design needs. She can often be seen reading New Scientist checking out what’s new, is a bit of a ‘spot the difference’ ninja and a real life ninja too, gaining a black belt in karate when she was just a child. Oh and as the the sibling of Carmen, they’re known together as the ‘giggle sisters’.

Favourite motto: “Where’s the chocolate?”

Rob

Technical Mastermind
BSc MIET

Known affectionately as the ‘Boff’. If Rob isn’t creating clever code, or consulting, you’ll find him behind a camera lens photographing wildlife. He was one of the pioneers of the very first smart cards for London prior to the Oyster branding and also received the Certificate of Commendation from the Area Commander of the British Transport Police for his assistance with investigating organised crime teams for operation ‘SKY’.

Favourite word: “Patience!”

Emily

Head of Brand & Seasoning
BSc (Hons)

Emily pulls together all the different strands to make our clients’ brands come to life in 4D. She delivers brand consistency across multiple platforms and makes us laugh with her ever so slight houseplant obsession. If she isn’t rocking something handmade, she’ll be living dangerously digging through charity shops for a book she hasn’t read and turning any vegetable she can find into noodles.

Her favourite phrase: “Needs more pepper.”

We make a difference

Since opening our doors in 2002, we’ve maintained and developed our principles to trade fairly (that includes sharing chocolate in the studio). We’re passionate about helping to shape the small planet we live on and this colours everything we do. To this end, we offer our clients environmentally friendly options including vegetable inks, carbon balanced processes and more.

Doing things differently means:

  • We’re registered with our friends at Trading Standards
  • We’re members of the FSB, cheering on small businesses and entrepreneurs
  • We colour our community – sponsoring Horley in Bloom, Horley Photographic competition, Heritage Open Days, local carnivals and other community initiatives
  • Supporting worthy charities – donating our services and goods so they can make a difference
  • Working with responsible partners
  • Donating our used IT to charities, reducing landfill waste
  • Using a carbon neutral web host
  • Offering our clients the option of vegetable ink print, FSC certified stock and recycled paper
  • Recycling waste materials to reduce our impact on our environment
  • Partaking in Minolta Planet Recycle
  • … and trying to remember our reusable coffee cups!
